An estimated 500,000
children worldwide have been maimed by land mines. Even
more, both adults and children, are survivors of acts of
violence, political oppression, vehicular and other
accidents, and birth defects.
This web site is
devoted to the development of the LN-4 Prosthetic Hand
by Ernie Meadows as a memorial to
his daughter Ellen. It tells the story of how
Rotary became involved with the hand and how Rotary
Districts 5110 and 5160 joined together to provide the
hand for those in need . . . . at no cost to the
recipients.
We invite you to
browse the entire web site to learn more about the hand
. . . to learn how it works
. . . to read the reports from
the teams that put the hand through its trials . . . to
view the photos of the
recipients . . . and to learn how you can become
involved in this most worthwhile endeavor. If you
have any questions, please contact
us. We'll be glad to share our experiences
with you as well as our passion for this initiative and
will show you how you can become part of our team.
The experience will not only change the lives of the
recipients, but it will change yours as well.
"I am
typing this email while we are fitting an LN4 on Moses.
He is over-whelmed right now (as I am typing) with tears
in his eyes. He has written his own signature (for the
first time) after 12 years and like Sabiti, he cannot
stop writing. He thanks you for the most memorable and
valuable Christmas gift he has ever received." Rotary in East Africa
